Organic Chairperson moves up

Manjo Smith, a local organic farmer, has been elected as one of two Vice Presidents of IFOAM, the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements. IFOAM is the worldwide umbrella organisation for the organic agriculture movement, which represents close to 800 affiliates in 117 countries. IFOAM actively participates in international agricultural and environmental negotiations with the United Nations and multilateral institutions to further the interests of the organic agricultural movement worldwide. Smith also serves the Namibian agricultural sector in her capacity as Chairperson of the Namibian Organic Association (NOA) and the National Association of Horticultural Producers (NAHOP). As Vice President of IFOAM, her task will be to support the development of organic agricultural practices and policy on a global scale. Smith said, “I am very honoured and privileged to serve the international organic sector,” she added.
