(Photograph by Johanna Ileka)The Roads Authority (RA) signed an agreement with Profile Civil Engineering, for the construction of the Omuthiya – Onanke gravel road (DR 3673) in the Oshikoto region earlier this week. At the signing ceremony, RA acting chief executive officer, Conrad Lutombi said that “these projects are a testimony of the RA’s dedication to develop rural roads and provide communities with access to essential facilities such as schools, clinics and other government facilities.”
“The sole objective of the Roads Authority is to manage the national road network with a view to achieve a safe, sustainable and efficient road sector. It is therefore our vision to have a sustainable road sector which is ahead of regional and national social economic need in pursuit of Vision 2030,” added Lutombi.
The length of the road is 33km and is estimated to cost more than N$39 million. The project is also expected to create about 380 jobs for the Oshikoto inhabitants.
Lutombi cautioned all parties involved to put in their best. “No sub-standard work will be tolerated and we expect nothing less than a good quality road,” warned Lutombi.
The construction will be carried out by Profile Civil Construction, together with four SMEs, namely: Lau Tom Construction, M Richter Construction, Rebirth Investments, and Flame Investment.
The project is fully financed by the Government.
