MVA launches safety campaign

Getting into gear ahead of the upcoming festive season, the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund of Namibia will on 4 November formally launch its safety campaign for 2014/2015. With recent data revealing that road crashes are on a spiral in Namibia and responsible for over 600 deaths and over 5000 injuries thus far, the National Road Safety Council (NRSC), MVA Fund and the Namibian Police together with partners in road safety, are taking action with the launch of the 2014/2015 Festive Season Road Safety Campaign Launch aimed at stabilising deaths on our roads through intensified law enforcement, education and advocacy during the festive holiday. Strengthening efforts towards a fatality free festive season, the fund held a stakeholders dinner this week Thursday to bolster the safety campaign.
In a single weekend this month, the MVA Fund Call Centre, 115 persons were involved in 44 road crashes from Friday, 24 October until 17h00 on Sunday, 26 October. 83 of these people sustained slight to serious injuries while 2 people from Khomas and 1 from Oshikoto regions lost their lives.
