Cheaper HD decoder expected soon

Multichoice Namibia will this year avail a more affordable high definition decoder to make HD viewing more affordable and accessible to a wider audience. Responding to a query by The Economist, Multichoice Namibia Spokesperson, Katrina Sikeni said that the decoders will be launched before the end of the year. The flagship Explora decoder currently retails for N$2000.
According to South African technology website mybroadband.co.za, the cheaper high definition model will retail for just under N$500 excluding installation and up to N$799 with installation. Key features as listed by Multichoice include; High Definition capability, dolby digital 5.1 surround sound when connected to a suitable television, XtraView capability which is compatible with selected XtraView decoders, and interactive applications. Measuring up against the flagship Explora, the cheaper variant of the decoder will however not be able to record while the Explora offers up to 220 hours of recording time.
