Mr Anton Bredell relaxes in the blood donation chair on Wednesday this week.

A well-known and highly respected teacher from Windhoek, Mr Anton Bredell this week set a new record when he sat in the blood donor chair for the 200th time in his life.
Zita Tobin, the public relations supervisor for the Blood Transfusion Service said “according to our archives, Mr. Bredell has donated [blood] on average five times a year since the year 1992. He is a regular blood donor who is dedicated to helping others and says he enjoys donating blood because he is helping save the lives of those in need.” Asked why he donates his blood, his answer was simple: “It saves lives.” Sister Judith Sinvula said people like Bredell are rare to find and they make a big difference. “We’re counting on these people because we know they’ll come back,” Sinvula said adding that Mr Bredell knows that you don’t need to be a superhero to save lives.
