German Embassy increases scholarships

The Embassy of Germany and the Arbeits- und Fördergemeinschaft Deutscher Schulvereine in Namibia (AGDS) announced last week their continual support by providing scholarships to Namibian teaching students.
Due to the lack of qualified teachers faced by the Namibian education system the Embassy  therefore provided scholarships to teaching students in order to make this study course more attractive.
This year, the German Embassy supported the scholarship programme with the amount of 7,500,00 Euro (more than N$105.000) and was able to increase the number of scholarship holders, supported through German funding, from two to four.
The AGDS is a coordinating body for eight parent’s boards, representing ten schools where German as a First Language is taught. Currently, 14 students are provided with bursaries, who in exchange agree to teach in German as a mother tongue or German as a Foreign Language at one of the AGDS schools for some years, once they have completed their education.
