The Rock to test endurance
The Rock Spitzkoppe Community Run and Mountain Bike Challenge 2014, is a highlight for runners, walkers and bikers all over Namibia, and takes place on Saturday, 13 September for the 5th consecutive year. An estimated 500 entries are expected.
The Rock event is a foot and cycle race organised by OTB Sport and respectively presented by the Coastal Cycling Club. This recreational outdoor experience has two aims; to benefit the local community economically and to celebrate the natural beauty of Namibia’s famous Spitzkoppe mountains and the surrounding gravel plains.
AREVA’s Managing Director, Hilifa Mbako said, “Our commitment to sport and community upliftment remains a priority, even though the Trekkopje Mine has been in care and maintenance mode for more than a year due to the downturn in the global uranium market.”
Event organisation, online entries are open at www.otbsport.com until 4 September .The first 330 entrants will receive a t-shirt.
The foot races start and finish at the Spitzkoppe Community camp site entrance in an anti-clockwise direction around the Pondoks and Grosse Spitzkoppe massifs. Cyclists will follow a separate route, updated by the Coastal Cycling Club via Klein Spitzkoppe and through the Spitzkoppe village.
