FNB offers new service

Deputy Mayor of city of Windhoek, Hon. Gerson Kamatuka with Desery van Wyk, FNB’s manager of cellphone banking at the official launch of the FNB cell phone banking/City of Windhoek, pre-paid electricity purchase option on 21 February.First National Bank this week introduced a new initiative through which its clients can purchase pre-paid electricity from the City of Windhoek by using the bank’s cellphone banking option.
The service, which is only open to FNB clients and to Windhoek residents, will allow customers to purchase their electricity from wherever ,and whenever.
Desere van Wyk, manager of cellphone banking at FNB, said that this service is much more convenient, affordable and safer for FNB customers as it will enable them to purchase prepaid electricity from the safety and security of their homes.
Every FNB customer qualifies for this service as long as the client has an FNB transactional account, is registered for FNB cellphone banking and has an electricity meter number for a specific household.
Meanwhile although this service is only open to FNB Windhoek customers, plans are underway to spread it to Erongo Red and other parts of the country.
Gerson Kamatuka, deputy mayor of Windhoek, together with van Wyk, officially launched the service on Tuesday.
Kamatuka congratulated FNB Namibia for its innovation and urged other banks to follow their lead as “it is the vision of the City of Windhoek to make Windhoek a vibrant, economic and technological center of excellence in Africa in order to improve the living standards of our people.”
He further said that FNB, with its innovative products and services, is the perfect partner to help achieve the City’s vision to provide adequte services to all its residents.
