A ray of sunshine shone recently in the otherwise depressing and dilapidated Katutura State Hospital when a group of bubbling pre-primary tots from Amazing Kids Private School and Academy visited the patients, bringing gifts, companionship, joy and love.
For their excursion and practical lesson in compassion, the Amazing Kids choose the maternity ward. Amazing as it may seem, the explosion of these very young Kindergarten learners into the lives of the expecting and new mothers, gave the boost they needed to envisage where their own infants will be in a few more years. As part of their school’s social outreach programme each learner had to collect baby necessities and put together a small kit of essentials to help the moms with their new-born babies. The gift boxes contained a range of items such as nursing bottles, disposable diapers, blankets and clothing as well as a special Bible verse from each learner to encourage the new moms. Head of Department at Amazing Kids Private School and Academy, Mrs. Janice Henckert, said:

“We are very happy to visit you, and bring you best wishes with your new found bundles of joy. Children are a gift from God, therefore we have to take great care of them and raise them to the best of our abilities. Since we regard our learners as gifts from God we are committed to instill values and compassion in them for their fellow community members.” “The maternity ward staff thanked the school for their generosity and the mothers expressed their appreciation for the act of kindness from the learners. The Amazing Kids in turn, enjoyed spending time with the moms and babies” said Roux-che Locke, well-known broadcast personality and herself a mom at the Kindergarten.
