Kindness and trust at DHPS
“The purpose of all activities during the so-called motto-days is to encourage a group of learners to approach each other and deal with one another. Another objective is, of course, the actual practice of kindness” the renowned German private school said.
For the most-recent Day of Kindness, a team had prepared day schedules for all grades, aiming to strengthen self-confidence.
Learners are taught that to care for other people, for animals and for plants is an essential part of life and that a culture of caring needs to be fostered. In order to give the saying and motto of the day “The seed of kindness you plant today, will one day bloom in the hearts of all that you touch” special emphasis and to demonstrate compassion, all participants planted sunflowers.
Typical Day of Kindness activities include, amongst others, writing a rap song about kindness or creating lists about what you love about yourself and what you are good at.
The results are then presented to the classmates afterwards. “Mutually created pictures and teambuilding games ensure good entertainment and real fun.
Tributes to classmates, an interpretation of the lyrics of a Beyoncé song on sustainability, thanking fellow learners for past kindheartedness, [these all] demand mutual respect” said Tahnee Horenburg, the Day of Kindness coordinator.
