Need for more Social Security detail

During the Rundurura campaign, it surfaced that many Namibians still need more detailed information about  Social Security benefits.
Castro Tjizoo, Communication Officer at the Social Security Commission said “More public education is needed judging from questions clients put forward. We were asked for example how much was needed to contribute to the Social Security MSD Fund; does everybody gets N$10,500 for maternity; why does Social Security only focus on female members; what other benefits are there; how much will I get when injured on duty, and how to report an accident? Numerous queries linked to labour issues like mistreatment at work and unfair dismissal were also posed to us.”
On the reach of the Rundurura public education campaign, Tjizoo said “For the past two to three weeks we have been in Opuwo, Oshikango, Eenhana, Ondangwa, Nkurunkuru, Rundu, Divundu and Katima Mulilo. We invited employers and we presented to them the operations of the Social Security Commission which includes the funds it is administering and other relevant topics as questions unfold. At the same time we also conducted compliance inspections.”

Tjizoo said he would like to see more people at the Rundurura meetings. “Only when there is trouble do some come running to us and we would like to avoid this.”
Rundurura headed to the Omaheke region this week visiting Otjinene and Gobabis.
