Players braved the cold as they hit the sand in last weekends DTS/FABUPHARM Beach Volleyball Tournament

The DTS/FABUPHARM Beach Volleyball Tournament last weekend at the DTS Sports Ground in Windhoek was a success with 33 teams taking part in the tournament.
The teams consisted of 7 Men’s teams, 7 Ladies’ teams, 5 mixed 4-a-side social teams, 9 Youth/Social 2-a-side teams and 5 Junior Girls 2-a-side teams and forms part of the 2014 Namibian Beach Volleyball Series.
In the 4-a-side category altogether 10 matches were played on the grass courts of the DTS. Winning all their games and walking away with the first prize was the team Farmers Attack, while the team of Meatco Paradise came second and VC Klappstuhl was third.
In the Junior girls category 5 teams played a round system to determine the best teams. Winning all their games were Kristin Schulz/Cara de Oliveira clinched the top position.
The 2-a-side Youth/Social category attracted 9 teams. In a great competition which is for the more advanced social players, Phillip Schulz/Gesa Kock managed to win all their games.

The Ladies category saw 7 teams battling it out with a couple of newly formed teams taking part. No 1 seeded team Rosi Hennes/Teja Lück lost their first match against newly formed Swakopmund/Windhoek based team of Lizette Röttcher/Dorle Verrinder and had to fight their way back to the semifinals through the losers round. Röttcher/Verrinder met no 4 seeded team of Wiebke Höritzauer/Birte Fahrbach in the first semifinal.
Höritzauer/Fahrbach took revenge for their first round defeat against Röttcher/Verrinder winning 2-0 advancing to the final, were . In an exciting 3 set match which was played under floodlights, Hennes/Lück managed to win their first tournament this year. Seven men teams played in a very competitive field of young and old players were Junior National Team Jan Eric Sack/Roman von Ludwiger, seeded 2nd, lost in the second round to no 3 seeded team Arno Pack/Heiko.
The next tournament is pegged for 9 August.
