Mahnke wins in Zanzibar
Noted local film promoter, Hans Christian Mahnke, was earlier this year nominated for an award at the Zanzibar International Film Festival. This past weekend his nomination has borne fruit and he walked away with the title “Best Film Promoter.”
Mahnke first came to Namibia working for AfricAvenir, an organisation dedicated to eradicate racism and exploitation through the medium of film and cinema. AfricAvenir operates in Douala, Berlin, Windhoek, Graz and Cotonou. It has an extensive collection of Namibian movies and movies about Namibia. Mahnke regularly arranges for the local screening of these movies.
AfricAvenir was awarded the “Toussaint L’Ouverture“ medal, an annual prize given by the Executive Board of UNESCO.
