The learners at Olof Palme Primary School this week received another donation from the CSO Aids Orphan Foundation Trust whose founder, Dr Christina Swart-Opperman visited the school as part of the ongoing School Bag project.
The trust has provided assistance on an ad hoc basis to Olof Palme Primary School since July 2006 with a feeding programme.
The school also benefitted from the “Winter Warmer” Initiatives since 2008 and participated in “Gladiator Days” since 2009. They also participated in the “Christmas Tree” project, as well as Eye and Dental Health Clinics. Currently there are 660 orphan and vulnerable children at Olof Palme Primary.
School Bags (to the value of N$650 per bag) were made up to include a school jersey, lunch box, water bottle, stationary pack, scarf, beanie and a blanket.
Dr Swart-Opperman said “the success of this “School Bag” Project must be credited to our Business Partners and all the other helping hands whose tireless engagement made such progress possible” adding that school bags and related items have remained needs for the children.  “Parents often cannot afford to equip their children sufficiently for the school year in terms of basic necessities.”
The Trust also received a donation of N$31,331 from leather artist, Hendrik Vrey.  With this donation, the trust will continue with the feeding programme for 660 orphaned and vulnerable children for three months.
Other donateurs to the School Bag project are Dr Chrisna Von Gericke, DTS Sport Club, the Ministry of Information & Communication Technology, the Namibian Standards Institution, Namib Mills, NamPower, Ohlthaver & List Group of Companies, Patrick Chinkhuntha and Rita Rossouw.
