First Miss Youth Hardap steals the limelight
The 20th anniversary celebrations for the National Youth Council saw 18year old, Yanique Kastoor scoop the crown for Miss Hardap Region under the Hardap Youth Forum’s programme. The three-day event was hosted under the theme: “Youth against Violence.”
“It is such an overwhelming feeling, I did not expect to be crowned Miss Youth Hardap because there are so many beautiful girls I competed against. I guess the judges saw something special in me. I am so excited,” said a visibly exalted Kastoor.
She said during her reign she would like to inspire and educate her fellow youth on the dangers of alcohol abuse as it is one of the biggest challenges faced by the youth in the region.
“I do not consume alcohol so I would like them to take the example from me as Miss Youth – Hardap. I also want to remind all Grade 12’s in the Hardap Region to study hard, so that we can give Hardap Region the best results it has ever had,” she said.
According to the Hardap Youth Forum, Regional Coodinator, Abel Kaifanua, this is the first time the region hosted a youth festival.
He said, Miss Youth Hardap was included in the programme for the weekend to groom the youth of Hardap for national pageants such as Miss Namibia, so that they can be ready and able to participate in such an event.
“During her reign, Miss Youth Hardap will start a community-based programme and is expected to travel through all eight constituencies in the region. She will also represent the Hardap Region at the next national Miss NYC. She will also be required to become active with people with disabilities especially the youth,” he said.
Miss Youth Hardap walked away with a cash price of N$1000 while her 2nd Princess Roletha Zaal won N$400 and 1st Princess, Marelize Fredericks won N$600.
Over 150 selected young ladies from all eight constituencies in the Hardap Region namely Gibeon, Mariental Rural. Aranos, Dawid, Mariental Urban, Rehoboth Rural, Rehoboth West and Rehoboth East participated in the activities over that weekend.
