B2Gold Namibia: we extend B1 road

The Namibian Roads Authority (RA) has recently approved an application by B2Gold to expand the B1 National Highway leading to the soon to be completed Otjikoto Gold Mine entrance. Once complete, it is expected that the component will facilitate safe entry to and exit from the mine from the national road over the long-term as a result of the heavy machinery currently in operation at the site.
Said B2Gold in a statement: “All efforts are being made to complete the works as quickly as possible and to keep any inconvenience to an absolute minimum.”
The location of the entrance is 72 kilometres north of Otjiwarongo en-route to Otavi, 42 kilometres south of Otavi on the B1.
Road users are cautioned as the highway has been reduced to a single lane at that particular point, for a distance of 600 metres. Flagmen, warning signs and speed reduction signs have appropriately been signposted, B2Gold said. A pilot car in conjunction with stop-and-go control is being utilised permanently to escort vehicles along the single lane.
“B2Gold Namibia regrets any inconvenience caused by these works and appeals for patience and safe driving,” it said.
