Hangana Seafood, a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List Group, has won the SADC Quality Product of the Year 2014 Award in the Category “Product of the Year Large Enterprise”. The SADC Annual Quality Awards are aimed at recognizing and appreciating organisations and individuals who are contributing to quality advancement in all sectors in the SADC region.

Cerina Bezuidenhout, Manager: HACCP (Hazards Analysis and Critical Control Points) at Hangana Seafood said: “From a quality side, the award means we are recognized for our commitment to produce a safe product with consistent quality. The national Standard Institutes of the SADC countries is now familiar with Hangana Seafood as a seafood-processing company and the different Quality Management Systems we have in place. These awards are only given to companies of individuals who have measurement and quality systems as well as procedures and processes in place which are in line with local, regional and international practices. At the same time we are also judged for our use of quality advancement to support national and regional economic development and growth.”
The awards were handed over to the winners at a special Awards Dinner held on 19 March 2014 at the Gaborone International Conference Centre. The Namibian Standards Institution (NSI) – the leading Namibian organiser of this event – was pleased to announce that Hangana Seafood scooped the prize SADC Annual Quality Award 2013/2014 in the Category Product of the Year Large Enterprise.
Says Bezuidenhout: “Hangana Seafood (Pty) Ltd. is a hake processor committed to the production of high quality, safe and legally compliant products. Quality assurance of our products, services and operations begins with the hiring of qualified and competent employees. All food handlers, including the fishermen, hired by the company are assessed for food-handling fitness and undergo induction training which covers the company’s Health and Safety, Good Manufacturing and Food Safety procedures and practices. Refresher trainings and post-training assessments are conducted on a regular basis by in-house and external trainers. This ensures that personnel are kept up to date with current practices and procedures and that training has been conducted in an effective manner. These are but some of the measurements we have in place at all times.”
