German-born Barbara Pirron has a great affinity for Namibia’s vast, open landscapes which she explored extensively as a mountaineer.
To her, nature means freedom, withdrawal and timelessness. Her work originates from her spontaneous ‘open air’ sketches of the Namibian landscape. However, Pirron’s paintings are not only depicting the visible images, but they are developed further in her studio and appear transformed. In her constant drive to experiment and search for the ‘Essence in Nature’, they become “Landscapes of the Soul”.
“Being creative is an enriching experience – most uplifting”, Pirron emphasises.

The artist has been living in Namibia since 1965. She studied at the former Art Academy of Namibia and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Africa in Pretoria. Pirron took part in numerous workshops, biennials and group exhibitions on a national and international level. Her artworks are included in private and public collections in Namibia and abroad.
The opening of the exhibition takes place on 08 April at 19:15 in the Auditorium of the Goethe-Centre, Windhoek.
