Musicians know this Monday about NAMAs

Fans of Namibian music makers are eagerly waiting for the announcement of the nominees for the Namibian Annual Music Awards. The official announcement takes place this coming Monday afternoon, 31 March.
The awards organisers said this week “the much-anticipated list of Namibian Annual Music Awards 2014 nominees will be announced on Monday 31 March 2014. For the first time this year, the nominees will be announced live on NBC TV from 16:00 to 17:00.” Popularly known under its acronym, the NAMA Awards, the organisers said “this will give artists who entered an opportunity to find out whether they made it as nominees.” NAMA Executive Chairman, Tim Ekandjo added “The levels of excitement are even higher as the artists will get to find out whether they are on the nominee list at the same time as the rest of the world.”

A total of 37 categories will be announced, with a maximum of six nominees in every category, except for the six public voting categories, namely (1) Best Live Performance, (2) Most Popular Artist, (3) Most Disciplined Artist, (4) Entertainment Journalist, (5) Entertainment Radio DJ and (6) Most Socially Responsible Artist of the Year.  All other categories of nominees have been determined purely by the judges’ votes. Once the nominees are announced, only the Song of the Year category will be open for public voting until 3 May 2014, while all other categories can be considered closed. “We are happy with the work put in by the Steering Committee as they made sure that the vetting process was thorough and did a marvellous job,” said Ekandjo.  Anticipating the public’s reaction, Ekandjo commented, “Every NAMA event comes with its own surprises, but I must hint that we have a lot of new players emerging which makes for an exciting list of nominees. Look out for five live performances by Floritha – best R&B winner of last year, Twazi, who also won a NAMA award last year, and newcomers Ethnixs, AJ Fresh, and Emmanuel, who are all very exciting prospects to watch.” “I wish to encourage the public to take full advantage of the Early Bird NAMA ticket special of N$200 standard and N$450 VIP that ends on 31 March, because from 01 April, tickets return to the normal prices of N$250 for a standard ticket and N$500 for a VIP ticket.
Encouraging local artists Ekandjo said “All the best to all the artists who took the time to participate in NAMA 2014, and for those who don’t make it as nominees this year I encourage them not to give up.”

The NAMAs take place on 3 May 2014 at the Swakopmund Sports Indoor Centre in Swakopmund. Follow the official NAMIBIA MUSIC AWARDS channels on: www.nama.com.na and on www.facebook.com/NamibiaAnnualMusicAwards
