Officials of  Danish Coop were in the country recently to evaluate the progress made at the projects the cooperative is funding. Executive managers of various Danish Coop retail shops accompanied the delegation to visit a number of agricultural sites where the Corporate Social Responsibility grant form the Danish Coop is being utilised.
Danish Coop is the importer in Denmark of Namibian red meat. The Danish Coop uses its extensive distribution network to supply Namibian red meat to hundreds of supermarkets across Denmark.

The delegation visited a commercial farm in the Windhoek district to gain an understanding of the dynamics involved in producing the meat at its primary source. The Danish Coop officials and their retail guests paid a special visit to the Okahandja abbatoir as well as various communal areas in which Danish funds are being utilised. Mr Kingsley Kwenani, Chief Executive Officer of the Meatco Foundation commented on the visit by the sponsors and said, “The Danes are happy with what has been implemented so far and are satisfied and will be sending the next team of managers in September 2014. The team has also pledged further funding of similar projects in the country and the Meatco Foundation is expected to present more project proposals for possible funding in their next financial year.” The Meatco Foundation, the corporate social investment arm of Meatco, is tasked with the objective of promoting and supporting the improvement of socio-economic conditions in the rural livestock sector. The foundation is able to achieve this through developmental interventions by finding and using donor funds. Close to 2400 communal farmers are expected to benefit under a project headed by the foundation.
