Fistball season commences

The coast will be a hype of activity this weekend as the Bank Windhoek Fistball Championship kicks off at the SFC Sports Club in Swakopmund.
Perennial champions, SKW 1, will once again start the league season as favourites in the Bank Windhoek National A League. With Namibia’s most capped national player in attack, SKW 1 has both the sporting acumen and experience to win another title.
Their main challenge is expected to come from SKW 2 and Cohen FC 1. SKW’s second string side has Rico Kühnle-Kreitz in its midst. The U18 national team spiker has improved tremendously over the past year and is well on his way to become one of the premier attacking players in the country.

Meanwhile, Cohen FC 1 put in a great performance at a cup tournament three weeks ago. They only lost the final to SKW 1 by the narrowest of margins. With their mix of seasoned campaigners and exciting U18 players, they are definitely the team to watch this season. The National B League champions, Cohen FC 3 will aim to start their title defence with a couple of wins on Saturday. Other teams in the National B League which have a shot at the title are SKW 3 and home team SFC 2.
Meanwhile the U18 national team players are busy with their final preparations for the U18 World Championships under the leadership of coach, Andreas Minz, will leave for Brazil in April, where the championship will be held. There, they will compete against teams from Austria, Germany, Brazil, Switzerland, Chile and Argentina.
