Overwhelming response to govt prayer call

Despite a very late announcement, the response to a call by the government for a National Day of Prayer to address the pervasive gender violence, was so enthusiastic that the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Katutura was filled to capacity by people who wanted to join the solemn occasion. Earlier in the week, the Cabinet called all civil servants, students, traditional and religious leaders, workers and Namibians from all walks of life to mobilise and participate in the Prayer Day. The same directive asked all churches to observes a minute of dedication for the victims of gender violence by ringing the bells at exactly 13:00 on Thursday afternoon. (Photograph by Mandisa Rasmeni)
