The German Embassy last week donated a spread of gym equipment to the community of Khorixas. The donation was made by Gundula Perry and Clarissa Judmann of the embassy to “Another Chance Social Club”.
The ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Minister for Health and Social Services, Mrs. Petrina Haingura, the Regional Director of the Kunene Health District, Mr. Shapumba and the Khorixas Regional Councillor, Mr. Gobs.
The donation supports the “Another Chance Social Club”, a social project under the leadership of social worker Mr. Nyeperayi. This project helps the Khorixas community to take part in healthy recreational activities.

The project particularly tries to reach pupils and pregnant women.  Pre- natal exercises and other sports courses are combined with education about the dangers of alcoholism, drugs, HIV/AIDS and gender based violence. The community members are given the opportunity to take part in activities such as chess courses and dart games. Deputy Minister Haingura h warned about the many health risks faced by Namibians and said that “the donation of sporting equipment will not only ensure the delivery of services closer to the people but also help to address these challenges. In this line I wish to sincerely thank the German Ambassador, Mr. Onno Hückmann for these wonderful sporting donations”.
She encouraged the community to take a stand against problems such as alcoholism, HIV/AIDS and teenage pregnancies.
