Carmina Burana and Africana start rehearsing for Independence concert
The first rehearsals for the combined Carmina Burana and Africana started this week in Windhoek. The show premieres in Windhoek on 16 March with another performance scheduled for Independence Day in Swakopmund.
Carl Orff’s popular sounds of “Carmina Burana” and the moving melodies of Namibian traditional music will merge into a combined cultural concert bringing Windhoek and Swakopmund audiences one of the largest choir performances ever.
The name of this Namibian German cultural project is “Carmina Burana and Africana”. The concept was developed and implemented by the German SingAkademie Niedersachsen together with the Amdi!Khoen Choir from Windhoek and the Mascata Youth Choir from Swakopmund.
With overall 96 singers, instrumentalists and soloists from Germany and around the same number of Namibian singers and instrumentalists, a combined number of 200 participants will take to the stage at the National Theatrefor the first concert on the 16th.
The German Ambassador, H.E. Onno Hückmann, will welcome both the guests and the performers at the first show.
The German Embassy said this week “The Federal Foreign Office places great importance on this unifying project because of its reach and its uniqueness and has thus supported it in a prominent fashion. The Namibian government also made a contribution to the project.”
On 21 March, when Namibia celebrates Independence, the large ensemble will perform in Swakopmund and contribute to the official celebrations.
Tickets for the concert on the 16th at 20:00 in the National Theatre in Windhoek are available at Computicket or at the NTN for N$ 150.
Tickets for the public dress rehearsal on the 16th at 16:00, also in the National Theatre cost N$50.
Tickets for the concert on the 21st at 20:00 in the NPS Bank Windhoek Kulturaula in Swakopmund can be purchased at Swakopmunder Buchhandlung for N$ 100.
Tickets for the afternoon concert at 15:00 in the NPS Bank Windhoek Kulturaula are available for N$50.
