The Southern Business School (SBS) in Windhoek is a distant education service provider that caters for adult learners and organisations that want to enhance employees’ knowledge in specific business disciplines.
“These short courses offer the ideal opportunity to advance learning, knowledge, skills and careers for people in academic institutions as well as the public or private sector.” stated Mr. Albin Jacobs’, Manager of Academic and Leadership Development at SBS.
Jacobs said the Southern Business School is an education provider that basically concentrates on improving a different mode of business education delivery and seeks to penetrate the market to become the preferred provider of business related qualifications in the country.
“What differentiates SBS from other educational facilities is that we offer  very affordable but quality education. We offer different routes of access to many students through conditional admission and recognition of prior learning.  SBS Namibia is a distance education provider and we stick to what we know best” stated Jacobs.

He said that through a web-based platform they are able to facilitate social interaction just like the other tertiary institutions which is, called My SBS. Through this digital platform, students can communicate with each other and with their lecturers which in turn creates transparency and support in the development of long-term relationships between the lecturers and the students.
“Unlike other tertiary institutes the drawback we have with the institution is that most school leavers opt for residency-based education as distance education demands a certain amount of discipline and commitment, and few school leavers have developed that level of discipline and commitment” explained Jacobs.
To promote and market their products and services they often hold annual road shows in various parts of the country.
This week, to ensure that more students reap the benefits of a distance education, a road show was organised for students in Walvis Bay on Monday for current and new students and another road show in Ongwediva on Wednesday, with the same purpose.
“The SBS Namibia road show provides the perfect solution for these students to register with us, We are looking forward to meeting ‘potential’ students and answering any questions and queries they may have.” reiterated Jacobs.
“Currently SBS Namibia provides opportunities for people to study at their own pace, in their own time, ensuring it fits in with their lifestyle by providing affordable access to recognised qualifications for students and people who want to improve themselves and their educational standard.”  “SBS Namibia is growing fast and we see ourselves as a major higher education institution in the future. At the moment we are working on introducing a new master degrees in Business and Policy into the Namibian market” Jacobs concluded.
