NAMA awards on track

Final dates to be announced soon
The Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMA) committee said this week of the 563 total number of entries received, 209 entries were disqualified, meaning 365 entries qualified for the awards. The NAMA committee gave an update to music lovers earlier in the week at a press conference in Windhoek.
The committee said the reasons why some artists were disqualified was because they did not have valid albums, nor were their albums released on time, or they entered into more than two music genres. But in terms of entries received the most popular categories are non-album singles with 94 entries, best newcomer with 82 entries, best collaboration with 59 entries and best music video with 41 entries.

The less popular categories for this years NAMA’s are best rock with three entries, best acapella with four entries, best Afrikaans with six entries and best Damara punch with eight entries. A total of 4746 public votes have been received to date, with the entertainment DJ of the Year leading the count with 1870 votes, followed by most disciplined artist of the year with 898 votes and song of the year with 835 votes. The NAMA committee said it encourages the public to continue voting either via SMS or via the NAMA website. The deadline for entries for radio song of the years is this Friday 7 February 2014.
The judging phase will now start and the nominees will be revealed on 31 March 2014 on the Watagwan slot on NBC live from 16:00 to 17:00.
The possible dates for the NAMA’s are either on 25 and 26 April or 2 and 3 May 2014.
