Archer season begins this weekend

The SKW sports grounds in Olympia will once again play host to this year’s Afro Pumps series of archery competitions.

The SKW sports grounds in Olympia will once again play host to this year’s Afro Pumps series of archery competitions.

This weekend sees the return of the annual Afro Pumps series and the start of yet another archery season. Namibian archers can now take out their bows and arrows and compete against each other at the SKW sports grounds over the weekend.
This year’s tournament will be no different to previous campaigns and will include both recurve and compound divisions with the majority of the archers competing in the latter. To date, only 20 archers have entered the competition.

Archers will get a chance to practice ahead of the tournament on Friday 24 January 2014. The competition starts on Saturday 25 January 2014 at 08h00 and sees archers compete in a 720 round. This means each of the 72 arrows garners 10 points. Based on the results of the 720 round, archers will be seeded accordingly and the competition will move onto the elimination rounds where even the slightest mistake can make the difference between winning and a losing.
“We’re happy to be back in action this weekend. It’s a good opportunity for our archers to see where they stand at the beginning of the new season,” said tournament organizer Karola Woortman.
