My kingdom for a passing lane on the Okahandja road

Regular drivers using the B1 trunk road between Windhoek and Okahandja received an early Christmas present this week when the Roads Authority announced that sections of this notorious road will be upgraded in phases to a dual carriage way. In the picture, Windhoek Mayor, Her Worship, Agnes Kafula (with spade), shows the other dignitaries how to start building a road. She is joined by Laura Mcleod-Katjirua, the Khomas Governor, Hon Erkki Nghimtina, the Minister of Works and Transport, Conrad Lutombi, Roads Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, His Excellency, President Hifikepunye Pohamba, and the Otjozondjupa Governor, Samuel Nuuyoma. The groundbreaking ceremony was held at the favourite weekend watering hole, Paaltjies near Brakwater. (Photograph by Lorato Khobetsi)
