Ivorian footballer who plays as a forward for Galatasaray in the Süper Lig, Didier Drogba is the face of Windhoek Lager’s new Pan-African advertising campaign.
The two year partnership will see Drogba appearing in a TV commercial as well as posters, billboards and other advertising collateral for the brand across Africa. Plans are also underway to bring the footballer to Namibia to meet fans between May and June next year. Drogba is expected to make two appearances in Namibia as per his contract in the next two years. He will be paid US$600 000 for each year.

The campaign will be launched with a TV commercial entitled “The Journey” which will air on 19 December on NBC and One Africa TV. Commenting on the campaign, Drogba said he is excited to be partnering with Windhoek Lager. “It’s great to see an African beer become so popular in so many different countries. I am looking forward to visiting the Namibian shores soon to see the home of Windhoek lager,” he said. The advertising campaign was developed when the brand team looked for ways to bring the story of the world class beer from Africa to life. They looked for a world class African hero that they could partner with as an ambassador for the brand, and researched what values and criteria should be considered.
“Drogba shares the same values and conviction that we do. Not only is he a proudly world class African, but he has also kept it real, prioritising the important things in life above triviality and the temptation to do it easier. His authenticity and strength make him a man that Windhoek Lager is proud to be associated with,” said Jacqueline Pack, Senior Brand Manager at Namibia Breweries.
