Next Swimming Gala scheduled for January

Bank Windhoek will host its next Long Course Swimming Gala at the Olympia swimming pool on 31 January 2014.
This was announced after defending champions, The Dolphins Swimming Club (DSC) retained their unbeaten track record and won the Bank Windhoek Namibian National Swimming Championship which took place between 28 November to 01 December 2013.

The club notched up an impressive 3649 points (with 74 swimmers) with some dominant individual and relay performances. The Namib Swimming Academy (NSA) with 42 swimmers came in second place, while Oranjemund Swimming Club with 32 swimmers, came third. “Despite the cold water, the swimmers had some outstanding swims and gave a 100 percent effort, in order to improve on their personal best times. Swimmers, who qualified, are now looking forward to the South African Level 1, 2 and 3 galas which will take place in March and April next year. NASU and the swimming community would like to thank Bank Windhoek for their generous sponsorship for this event. NASU would also like to thank all the officials for their hard work over the last five days. Without our great sponsor, parents and last, but not least, all the hard working swimmers, there would be no gala”, said Rentia Meyer, Press Officer of the Namibia Swimming Union (NASU).
Also at the event, upcoming swimmer, Ronan Wantenaar, of the NSA, broke his own National 11-12 year old age group’s 50m Backstroke record of 34.32 with a new time of 33.93.
Swimmers from all over the country, some as far as from Oranjemund competed in this event at the Olympia swimming pool in Windhoek. This event is the last chance for swimmers to qualify for the South African Prestige Age Group meet in March 2014.
