The 2013 FNB Desert Triathlon will see a record attendance of athletes.

A record number of people will take part in the ultra distance of this year’s FNB Desert Triathlon event that takes place on December 8 in Swakopmund.
The event kicks off from the Swakopmund Mole with a swim in the chilly Atlantic Ocean followed by cycling which takes cyclists out into the Namib desert on the salt roads.
The run is on the scenic paths meandering alongside the beach and runners can expect cool, fresh winds blowing off the sea.
The FNB Desert Triathlon offers a choice of three distances. The Ultra distance (1.9km/90km/21km), a Standard distance (1km/40km/10km) and a Sprint Distance (400m/20km/4km). There are also team entries where athletes can team up with other athletes to enable them to complete the entire event.

OTB Sport, the organizers of the FNB Desert Triathlon, said they had promoted the 2013 event internationally, especially in South Africa in a bid to attract more triathletes to the Ultra event. A total of 250 participants are expected this year with a strong increase in numbers in the Ultra distance event.
OTB Sport thanked FNB for their continued support and sponsorship for the past seven years. They also thanked PUMA, the technical sponsor, OCNAM and Herco Marketing, Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre, and Air Namibia.
The FNB Desert Triathlon will give away N$46000 in prizes. These include cash prizes, vouchers, trophies and medals. The top prize of N$4500 will go to the winner of the Ultra event. The first 230 entries will receive a PUMA event t-shirt.
