Multichoice Namibia last week launched their latest innovation in digital satellite television, the DStv Explora. The Explora is Multichoice’s next-generation PVR decoder which introduces DStv subscribers to a whole new world of extraordinary entertainment with new features and substantially more recording space.

Subscribers can now view more with Catch Up. This PVR feature allows viewers to save up to 220 hours of personal recorded content, viewing one programme while recording another. Viewer’s will also get to discover more and control more when they search for their favourite programmes and find out when they will be airing next as well as pause live TV for up to 2 hours, retain buffering when changing channels, conduct word searches and even personalise individual user themes. MultiChoice General Manager, Roger Gertze said adult viewers need not worry about what their children are viewing with the DStv I-status which allows them to monitor viewing behaviour on who watched what at what time. Speaking in an interview with the Economist, Training Officer at Mutichoice, Waldo Majiedt said the Explora is unlike its predecessor decoders in the sense that it offers extended viewing because it does not heat up or stops playing recorded movies even when it is hot. “The Explora has more ventilation holes than previous decoders. It has ventilation holes at the top and at the bottom”. Viewers will now also get a chance to rent movies through the Box Office which is a service that is currently not available in Namibia, but will be according to Majiedt. He said viewers will be able to rent movies depending on what movies will be showing with prices ranging between N$15 to N$75.
