The Action Arena in the Windhoek suburb Olympia will host the Hyundai Paintball Challenge, which is scheduled to take place on 16th November.
The organisers of this event hope that the challenge will go down in history as one of the best Paintball events ever hosted on Namibian soil. The tournament will offer players and spectators a wide variety of paintballing action, including speedball, tactical time trail and a shooting range. All team members have to participate in all three events to accumulate maximum points towards the overall standing. The winners will walk away with a cool N$ 5000 in cash. For the speedball event the teams, consisting of five players each, go head-to-head on a 30 by 50 meter obstacle course laid out by the Action Arena personnel. Each match will consist of two games, meaning that a maximum of two points can be taken per match. To win a point, a member of the team must touch the opposition’s start station, without being hit by either the opponents or his own teammates. This can be done once the entire opposing team is eliminated from the game or if the opposing team is distracted. Depending on the final number of entries, the event organisers will determine the exact mode of play (group-stages etc). The tactical time trial will be done on the scenario field where teams will do a series of house clearances and other tasks while being timed. There will be targets set up in the field symbolising “hostiles” and “friendlies”. Hitting “hostiles” will subtract time while hitting “friendlies” will add time. At the shooting range, each team will be given 60 paintballs (10 each, but they can divide as they please) to try and hit as many of the 25 targets as possible. One point will be awarded for a hit. Teams can be made up of corporate entities as well as private people. The entry fee is N$ 1800 per team. Entries close on Wednesday, 13th November. Registration can be done online (www.action.com.na) as well as telephonically (Werner:
081 2386000).
