Codie van Schalkwyk wins tennis series

Codie van Schalkwyk won this year’s edition of the Kia tennis series, when the 11 year old secured second place in the advanced category at the Windhoek High School (WHS) on Saturday. Although he lost the final against his 8 year old brother Conner, his staggering amount of points accumulated over the season was enough to ensure him top spot of the overall standing.
The event was hosted by the Pro Tennis Academy.
Codie went into the last tournament as the overwhelming favourite, but a leg injury meant he had to work extra hard to win the prestigious title. He then showed his worth when he cruised through to the final unbeaten. In a hard-fought match, both brothers showcased exceptional skill, but it was Conner who eventually had an upper hand on  Codie. Yet, Connor’s win gave him the second place in the overall standing. Oliver Diggle came in third in the advanced category. Meanwhile there was no stopping Veri Hinda in the intermediate category, while Delvin Losper came in second and Logimo Goraseb in third. The beginner’s category was once again won by Kayden Schnelle. It was his second consecutive win at the Kia series. Randel Kavandje and Jaco Becker had to settle for second and third place respectively. Samar van der Merwe emerged victorious in the midi category. The second place went to Adam Diggle and third place to Faith Kahuure. The mini category was won by Karmi Muller. Hendrina Apollus made second place with Shaylynn Johr in third.
