Manica hosted a corporate Gold Fun Day in Walvis Bay late last week under the theme: ‘Strengthening Relationships and Creating New Friendships.’ The event was attended by over 60 golf players representing various companies and institutions. The fun day followed the fast-paced American scramble format with the best ball throughout, which allows for non-golfers to participate as well. “Manica has been a sponsor of the annual Namibian Amateur Golf Open, but this year we decided to treat our clients, suppliers and stakeholders with a fun day. The idea was that everyone should have fun, whether they are golf players or not.

We wanted to create a relaxed setting where we could build on our relationships, network and above all show our appreciation for your support,” said the General Manager: Public Relations of Manica, Nolito Marques during the prize giving ceremony. Prizes worth N$25,000 were awarded including an iPad and 42” flat screen TV in a lucky draw. The winners of the tournament were Walvis Bay Ship Chandlers followed by Panavest in second position and Bachmus in third position. Prizes were also given for the best dressed team (Walvis Bay Municipality), the Closest to the Pin (7 – Ben van Wyk; 11 – Percy van Zyl ) and the Longest Drive (1 – Neill Theron; 17 – Emile Vilbert).
Players were also fined for slight transgressions, of which the most odd one, was a player trying to tee-off from the top of a tree.
