Art Gallery gets a revamp

The Art Gallery of Namibia last week launched their newly re-vamped website and announced plans to extend their premises.
The expanded and newly renovated art gallery will offer more room for art pieces and a coffee shop where visitors of the gallery can relax, said the Director of the National Art Gallery of Namibia (NAGN) Hercules Viljoen.
The expansion will not only strengthen the art gallery’s’ role at the forefront of visual arts exhibitions and unearthing Namibian talent in art, but also provide the broader public access and a dynamic cultural space for current and upcoming Namibian and international artists.
So far this year the Art Gallery has hosted fifteen temporary exhibitions of which all were coordinated successfully and visited by a large number of art enthusiasts.
The gallery received 1099 visitors in June alone and an overall number of 7869 visitors over the past nine months. 90% of the displayed art works were sold with some exhibitions reaching 100% on sales.
Exhibitions such as Land Matters in Art, Gender Based Violence, Optimist, Painting and Panels, Panels and Paintings, Creatures great and small and the Potters Association of Namibia, were noted by Viljoen as some of their best exhibitions in terms of sales as well as attendance.
Curator Luness Mpunwa said the gallery has an exciting line-up for next year “So far we already have ten exhibitions lined up for next year. We will have one international exhibitor, six local exhibitors and three NAGN initiated exhibitions”.
Renovations inside and outside the gallery are currently underway and are expected to be finished by December. Art enthusiasts can check for previous, current as well as future exhibitions on the gallery’s website www.nagn.org.na.
