Windhoek Jazz Festival draws closer

The countdown to Windhoek’s biggest musical event, is running into the final leg. With just three weeks to the event, the artists to perform at the Windhoek Jazz Festival are preparing not only to blow the audiences’ minds away but have them dancing like never before with promises of new sounds.
This year’s artists are the likes of Fu Jazz all Stars, Erna Chimu, Elemotho, Sharon-unplugged, Ama-khoe, Big Ben and Mahetage with international artists, Zahara and Hugh Masekela. The Namibian artists are not only looking forward to performing at the event but also to meet and share the stage with Zahara and Hugh Masekela. “I want to say that I am proud that we were chosen to perform at this year’s Jazz Festival. We are Namibia’s best and we will make Namibians proud. I am excited to be performing at the same event as Hugh Masekela. I have been playing my saxophone so that I can play with him as he plays his trumpet” said musician Big Ben. Another artist that is looking forward to perform at the event is young Fu Jazz Allstars member Romancia Shoonga. She only joined the band in August this year but is estactic about getting the opportunity to perform to such a large audience and on the same platform as Zahara. “I have been singing for over 10 years. I feel honoured to have the opportunity to meet international artists of such stature. It is a dream come true especially for a Jazz fanatic like myself”. Romancia said this year the Fu Jazz All Stars will bring on a fresh, younger voice, a funkier sound with a anew twist that will have people dancing. Last year the Hage Geingob stadium was filled by jazz fanatics from all walks of life. The event proved to be a huge success with many of the people in the audience encoring for more after every performance. With such an awesome line up of artists, this year’s event promises to be bigger, better and definitely bring the best in Jazz music. Fans of Zahara can also look forward to watching her perform songs from her recently released second album titled ‘Phendula’ which means ‘answer.’ Tickets are available from Computicket outlets for N$200, or N$250 at the gate. Gates at the Hage Geingob Stadium will open at 16:00.
