Five different clubs have confirmed their participation at this year’s Kia Youth Soccer Tournament which is scheduled to take place at the DTS sports ground in Olympia on Saturday, 05 October.
After having successfully hosted this event for the very first time last year, the organisers hope to make this year’s edition bigger and better.
Besides the hosts, U7, U9, U11 and U13 teams from Ramblers FC, Swallows FC, SKW and Otjiwarongo FC will battle it out, whereby Otjiwarongo will not participate in the U13 age category.
After having won all the tournaments they participated in this season, the first string of the DTS U7 team will take a new look come this Saturday.
“I have mixed two of my under 7 teams and formed equally strong squads. It is to give some players who never quite made the first team a chance of finishing amongst the top 3. The role of the favourites is not ours anymore, but it will be interesting to see how my boys play in their new teams”, said, DTS coach Arne Dreyer.
The U9 and U11 categories will be equally closely contested, with all teams able to go for gold.
A very interesting day awaits the U13 players. For the first time, they will go at it in the multi-purpose hall alongside the soccer field which is mainly used for Inline Hockey and Volleyball. Indoor soccer rules will apply. “Since none of the teams has played on that surface before, it is anyone’s guess as to who will emerge victorious. It is probably the biggest highlight of the tournament”, Dreyer further stated.
The event is sponsored by Kia, Nictus, Otb Sports and Martin Krafft and promises players and spectators alike a fun day with over 130 games on display.
