Windhoek is fast becoming a hub for dedicated shoppers with the marked increase in the construction and extension of shopping centres. Residents of Pioneers park Extension 1 can now look forward to closer access to groceries, fast food and medicine at the Westlane Shopping Centre which is currently under construction. The shopping centre is conveniently located on the corner of Scheppmann Street and David Hosea Meroro Road (previously Hochland Road) with high visibility and access from both roads.

The approximately N$80 million shopping centre is a mixed-use development that includes retail and office space as well as a sizeable number of attractive two-bedroom apartments. The retail area is approximately 4700 square metres and provides space for the anchor tenant and 16 line shops ranging from 14 to 250 square meters. The anchor tenant is a Spar supermarket that will occupy retail floor space of approximately 2400 square meters. Three office areas ranging from 80 to 105 square meters in area is provided one floor above the retail floor. There is also provision for four ATM banking outlets, a car wash and storage space.
Anchor tenant Spar will be operated by Mr Robert Voigts, who is also the Retailer Member of the highly successful Maerua Superspar.
“We are in advanced discussions with a multinational bank and fast food franchises as well as a national mobile telecommunications company. Jimmey Construction have also made provision for a pharmacy, laundromat, hair salon and other complementing shops that have raised good interest and most have been taken”, said Jimmey Construction’s General Manager: Strategic Planning and Development, Jacko Koen.
According to Koen the shopping complex should be nearing completion by mid-2014 to provide for beneficial occupation of tenants in order for trading to commence in August 2014.The construction company is in the final stages of securing finance from a major financial institution and bulk earth works have already taken place and concrete work is now underway.”Construction of the shopping complex will create approximately 300 job opportunities and upon completion our estimation is that 120 permanent opportunities would be created” said Koen.
