There is help even in deep dispair

Hilma Haimbili, Wellness Manager for the O&L Group talked to employees about suicide, its reasons and its warning signs.

Hilma Haimbili, Wellness Manager for the O&L Group talked to employees about suicide, its reasons and its warning signs.

Addressing and preventing the disruptive event of suicide featured as the painful but necessary topic of discussion at a wellness event last week organised by the O&L Group of Companies for its employees and dependants.
Hilma Haimbili, O&L Wellness Manager said that this year the O&L Group has decided to pro-actively assist with awareness creation around the prevention of suicide, amongst others. “Unfortunately we start seeing an increase of suicides from September onwards and we thus feel it is very important to assist where possible in creating awareness and letting people know that there are alternatives and that there is help out there”, said Hilma.
Last week, the O&L Group in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Services hosted a community outreach event for the public and employees of the group to share information regarding suicide, the reasons, warning signs and available assistance.
Haimbili added that it is important for O&L to be involved as the group reaches a large number of individuals and families. “Within the Group, O&L conducts awareness and education sessions in its subsidiaries on various physical and emotional or mental health topics.  Through these, a platform is created to discuss these issues, including suicide prevention, openly and to share information and experiences.  Basic counselling services are also available to employees from the employee wellness department” she said.
