The cyclists started at Otjihase mine at 08h00 on Saturday with the first cyclist arriving at Midgard Country Estate after only 2:57 hours after covering 72km of scenic, yet challenging trail through the mountains.
Tristan de Lange (16 years of age), recorded the best time, followed by Charl Fouche and Johan Fourie.
The mountain bikers left Midgard at 08h30 on Sunday morning and cycled to Okapuka via Leopard Lodge. The route crossed the high Otjihavera Mountains with descents, where cyclists easily reached up to 60km/ph. Once at the bottom, the cyclists had to climb the equivalent on the opposite side, which stretches for at least 3km.
The cycle marathon is an annual event running for eight years was supported by Rock and Rut Mountain Bike Club and Wispeco.
