ATA International Training Namibia (ATA ITN) and Seeing Beyond Coaching and Counselling Center are the chief organisers of the first trauma healing conference to be held from 17-18 October at the Arebbusch Lodge in Windhoek. The topic of this conference will be: “Trauma Healing, the impact of personal wounds on workplace performance.”
Dr Schalk Botha from Seeing Beyond and Fabian Martens, Operations Manager of ATA ITN developed the idea as part of ATA International Training’s Life Programme. “The idea came into my mind during a speech by the honourable Minister Nicky Iyambo” said Dr Botha. The Minister was our inspiration to plan this conference when he discussed the importance of trauma healing for the entire nation. According to research, the personal trauma of people often interferes with both their functioning within a relationship and in the workplace.
The first day of the conference will be more formal in nature as it will feature five high quality plenaries with speakers from Namibia and South Africa. Fabian Martens reported: “In addition to Dr Schalk Botha the plenaries will be held by Dr Tessa van Wyk, a well-known radio personality, Dr Armas Shikongo from the UNAM and in the evening will be Dr Craig Lambert from the University of Johannesburg. Small group sessions are planned in between plenaries.” The second day is focused on practical outreaches to companies and communities. Dr Botha mentioned “The second day will be on-the-ground and will provide the opportunity to share the fruits of the formal conference in a practical way.”
Companies and communities can book a special package, especially for the second day. Fabian Martens, our specialist, will go to every company and community that books for the second day.
This conference will be the first of its kind in Namibia. Mr Martens mentioned that there is support from various companies such as Graphic Zone, Hitradio Namibia and also from Team Namibia. Team Namibia members are entitled to a special conference price.
