Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb hosted its annual Fun Golf Day on 17 August 2013 in Tsumeb. The aim of this event is to raise funds for the Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb Community Trust, and this year more than N$150,000 was raised through donations from DPMT service providers and suppliers who turned out in large numbers to support the event.
Seventy-eight golfers competed over 18 holes at the Tsumeb Golf Course. The competition began on a high note as players headed down the fairways using the three-ball-alliance scoring format, and ended with a prize-giving and braai at the facility’s classy clubhouse.
Future social responsibility projects in the Tsumeb community will benefit from the day’s proceeds, which exceeded N$150,000 for the first time in the four-year history of the event.
“I am proud and humbled to see so many people and sponsors actively involved in supporting worthy charitable causes in the Tsumeb community,” said Hans Nolte, DPMT Vice President and General Manager. “Corporate executives as well as dedicated golfers came in numbers to contribute towards uplifting our community and to have a good time in the process.”
This year the event was held in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Tsumeb Smelter. Guest of honour for the occasion was Mr. Bob Meiring, former general manager of the once-mighty copper-mining giant Tsumeb Corporation Limited (TCL) as well as a past president of the Tsumeb Golf Club. Also present in support of the event was Tsumeb Mayor Linekela Shetekela.
During the prizegiving, Mr. Meiring said he was “pleased and touched by the continued efforts of DMPT to make a difference in the Tsumeb community.”
“The residents of Tsumeb can bow in honor of such great deeds. I applaud Mr. Hans Nolte and his team for quality community investment and for sustaining a legacy of community development and quality improvement through the Tsumeb Smelter,” he said.
The winners of the DPMT Fun Golf Day 2013 were: First place: Etosha Pharmacy (Orlando Nugurib, Alfeus Moses, Thomas Hailongo), second place: Atlas Copco (Dirk  Potgieter, Dirk Potgieter Jr., Jacobus van der Merwe) and third place: Geva Sales (Josef Nugurib, Mervin Nangolo, A Thomas).
