Winning two tournaments in a row has taken Codie van Schalkwyk to the top position in the Kia Tennis Series ranking but he will have to watch his back, two serious opponents have their eyes on the number one position. Van Schalkwyk currently holds the first place in the ranking table with a total of 3800 points. Oliver Diggle of St Georges is not far behind with 3475 points while Andre Smit with 3400, will rely on his strong serves to take him to the top spot. Diggle will try his utmost best to use this weekend’s tournament to close the gap between him and van Schalkwyk.
The top ten in the Kia Tennis Ranking are Codie van Schlakwyk 3800, Oliver Diggle 3475, Andre Smit 3400, Moyo Nqobilizwe 3000, Delvin Losper 2625, Dario Noabeb 2475, Veri Hinda 2250,
Conner van Schalkwyk 2250, Andy Jantzen 2075 and Eric Imbuzeiro with 2000 points.
Points for the Kia Tennis Ranking are calculated on a 12 month rolling basis and therefore represent the performance of players from last year August up to this year July. The Kia Tennis Series consists of 9 tournaments with the 6th tournament of the season scheduled for this weekend.
Players participate in one of five categories according to their skill level and collect points towards the Kia Tennis Ranking. The tournament, which is hosted by Pro Tennis Academy, will take place at the WHS tennis courts in Windhoek. Players in the Mini and Midi category will play on Friday afternoon, with the Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced categories competing on Saturday.
