Former tourism director Shikongo appointed to head of the Access and Benefit-sharing Unit Thematic

The former tourism and gaming director, in the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism Dr Sem Shikongo was recently appointed as head of the Access and Benefit-sharing Unit Thematic (ABS) at the Secretariat of the Convention of Biological Diversity in Montreal, Canada.

Dr Shikongo has been involved with the organization and was one of the lead technical negotiators leading to the adoption of the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing
since 29 October 2010, when it was adopted.

The Nagoya Protocol calls for a fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from genetical re sources and its utilization internationally.

 

 

Congratulating Dr Shikongo, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said she is confident that his service would be of great value to Africa and will enhance the image of Namibia internationally.
