SADC Emergency Response team call for applicants

The Disaster Risk Reduction Unit of the SADC Secretariat is calling for applications to join the SADC Emergency Response Team, in line with the decision of the August 2019 Council of Ministers, which called for the expeditious operationalization of the SADC Disaster Preparedness and Response Mechanism.

The call is supported by the World Bank through the Strengthening Disaster Risk Reduction, Coordination, Planning and Policy Advisory Capacity project.

The Emergency Response Team will be a team of experts from different disciplines as per the qualifications and experience, to provide lifesaving support to communities in SADC Member States affected by disasters.

The SADC Emergency Response Team will serve on a voluntary basis and will be deployed on as required basis during disaster occurrences. Members of the Emergency Response Team will undergo training in line with the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) training requirements for Emergency Response Teams.

Members will be called upon for deployment as the first line of response during emergencies in the region and their travel costs and subsistence allowances during deployment will be the responsibility of SADC Secretariat.

The SADC Secretariat invites suitably qualified candidates to express their interest by completing the application form. The deadline for submission of applications is 10th September 2020. For More information, visit the official SADC website.
