Famous Fu Jazz glitter at Windhoek jazz night

01 August, Warehouse Theatre

The Fu Jazz All Stars will also perform at Windhoek’s first Jazz night.

The Fu Jazz All Stars will also perform at Windhoek’s first Jazz night.

The Warehouse Theatre stage is set for a rendezvous of the ’Who is Who’ of local jazz music. First up on the stage will be the group with the humorous name ‘Trio Animator’. The group was formed by teachers from the College of The Arts under the leadership of bass guitarist Amakhoe Gaweseb and specialises in jazz performed with violin (Faustino), piano (Vernon Hugo) and percussion (Lebo Motabeng).
Erna Chimu and her band will bring in the ‘afro-jazz’ flavour with Gerson Doeseb on the keyboard, Jipe Ntsika on bass, Guichont Bikoumau on drums and Mannekey Mkhoe-aob on percussion forming the rhythm section. Erna Chimu has just finished recording her new CD at Cabanon Music. The final product, ‘Haiserute’, is bound to positively shape the standard of jazz in Namibia.
Another jazz-experienced lady, Sharon Van Rooi, will present herself in a brand new acoustic format. The new format suits this expert jazz singer as it gives her the opportunity to relive the music of jazz greats Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and Natalie Cole in authentic style. Music lovers will also get a taste of Komla Mensah Young from Ghana.who plays the acoustic guitar.
The first Windhoek Jazz Night is anchored by the famous Fu Jazz All Stars. The Windhoek Jazz Nights are an initiative by the Fu Jazz All Stars band in collaboration with Ondjila Y’Ondjaba Concert Agency. This is the first of a range of concerts to increase awareness and appreciation for jazz in general, and to bring experienced musicians and newcomers to share a joint stage and to get to know each other musically and personally. Hopefully, as a result, to help bring to life new projects. For the music lover the Windhoek Jazz Nights serve as a veritable ‘one stop shop’ for Namibian live jazz music across cultural divides.
Tickets are available from Computicket at N$60 in advance or N$80 at the door. Come 19:30, Thursday 1 August music lovers will get to experience the finest jazz music Namibia has to offer.
