The CEO of Rehoboth Town Council Mr Theo Jankowski said consumers have made cell phones their preferred mobile devices, also for financial transactions.

FNB clients in Rehoboth are now able to purchase pre-paid electricity from the Rehoboth Town Council using FNB’s easy, affordable and secure Cellphone Banking service.
Dixon Norval, FNB’s Head of Strategic Marketing and Communications said: “This innovation is also in response to the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Namibia’s call for greater financial inclusion.

He said the new service has numerous benefits for individuals including the fact that it is now more convenient, affordable and safer for FNB customers    to buy electricity. “No need to buy pre-paid electricity in bulk or panic over weekends because you are running out of electricity, all you need is a qualifying FNB transactional account, such as a Lifestyle account, CardWise, BankWise, or BusinessWise, to be registered for FNB CellPhone Banking and your electricity meter number. Best of all, this service is currently free of any bank charges and only the cell phone network fees apply.”
The CEO of Rehoboth Town Council Mr. Theo Jankowski said that consumers have, over the years, made cell phones their preferred mobile devices. “Like automated teller machines “ATMs” and online banking services, cell phones are giving consumers more options. By being able to access account information and perform transactions without requiring access to bank branches, ATMs, or computers, consumers are able to “bank” wherever and whenever they want — and they are learning to expect such convenience,” he added.
FNB clients in Windhoek already benefit from this initiative and plans are well underway to expand this offering to other parts. City of Windhoek, ErongoRED and NoRED are already on board as partners with FNB, which means that FNB customers in those areas should be able to purchase their pre-paid electricity via FNB Cellphone Banking.
