Opel delivers power without compromise

More muscle than ever and a roar of attitude, the all new Opel Astra OPC.

More muscle than ever and a roar of attitude, the all new Opel Astra OPC.

The Opel Astra OPC is the most powerful hatch ever built by Opel. It’s hard not to notice the power and sex appeal that the Astra OPC oozes. Hot and fast are the best words used to describe this car available in 2.0 Turbo, which means it boasts a powerful two-litre turbo direct injection engine delivering 206kW, 400 Nm of maximum torque, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h making it the fastest Astra ever.
You have to be prepared to have the ride of your life when you step into the car. The interior is as breath taking as the exterior. I’m not sure if its appropriate to say this but the car took my breath away, so much it literally gave my heart an orgasm, if there is such a thing. With specially sculpted front and rear bumpers, side skirts, an aero-dynamic roof spoiler and two exhaust tail pipes in trapeze shape, the sporty exterior design of the Astra OPC is sure to grab your attention, and keep it.
Yes, it is a fast super machine but that does not mean that Opel has forgotten about the most important aspect of a making a car, the safety. With features such as Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL) which enhances visibility through curves and sharp bends, it makes night driving significantly safer. The active headrests move up and forward under impact to guard against any head injuries and of course one of my favourite features, the robust bumpers and highly efficient energy absorption systems deal with minor impacts. Complementing these thoughtful features, the bumper beams are precisely positioned for maximum protection in car to car low-speed impact, helping cut repair bills and leading to excellent insurance classification. Not too bad for a fast car hey.
The rigid passenger cell is mainly fabricated from high strength steel and surrounded by optimized deformation zones that protect while collapsing a controlled manner. Inside, the seat belt pre-tensioners on the front seats, front, side and curtain air bags, Pedal Release System and active headrests all work together to ensure maximum protection from the air bags enhancing the overall level of safety and protection.
It is hard to imagine that this two-door could have a lot of space, but it does. The new Opel Astra OPC offers storage possibilities beyond your imagination. From a centre console with two cup-holders and door pockets front and rear with bottle holders, to a driver’s storage bin, a large glove box, and front and rear centre armrests with closed storage compartments, there is more than enough space for everything and everyone. The split-folded rear seat backrest can increase the load capacity in stages from 370 to 1,235 litres. The unique 3-position Flex Floor system increases the flexibility even further, as it can lower the floor to maximize rear load height and volume. It can be easily lifted and fixed for access to the spare wheel and extra hidden storage space.
From its exterior and interior design there is no denying that the new Opel Astra OPC is sheer perfection. It’s so perfect and it’s kind on your pocket fuel-wise with a surprisingly economic fuel consumption of 8.1 litres/100km. Now that is power without compromise. However, with power comes a price and this one is a little hefty at N$435,625 at Auas General Motors.
