!Gawaxab appointed new central bank governor

The President, HE Dr Hage Geingob, Tuesday announced the appointment of Johannes !Gawaxab as the new governor of the Bank of Namibia (BoN).

!Gawaxab will serve for an initial period of 18 months, starting on 1 June, to complete the unexpired term of the former Governor, Ipumbu Shiimi who was appointed the Minister of Finance last month by Geingob.

!Gawaxab is the former Managing Director of Old Mutual Africa and is a co-founding partner and Executive Chairman of Eos Capital, a local incorporated Private Equity Fund.

He also headed the President’s High-level Panel on the Namibian Economy of which the final report was submitted to His Excellence on 25 February this year. The High-level Panel was responsible for organising the much-touted economic growth conference last year.
